St Aldhelm's Head

Long shot of St Aldhelm’s Head, near Worth Matravers from the North East. On the foreground to the left, cut into the cliffs, part of which have been quarried away over the centuries, are footings of a building, probably the remains of a Radar Research Station which was in operation from 1940 to 1942. At the centre of the photograph is the square Norman chapel dedicated to St Aldhelm’s and to the left of it, the present coastguard building.

To the right are the coastguard cottages built in 1834. This photo was taken in the summer of 1998. FR 266/2.
