Maiden Castle - Roman Temple
Inside Maiden Castle, on the North-eastern end, is a small Romano-Celtic temple, built about A.D. 367. This close-up photo was taken from the West. The East-facing entrances of both the veranda and the inner cella can be clearly seen. To the North of the temple is what is described as a two-roomed priest house. Both these structures were excavated by Mortimer Wheeler before the second world war and subsequently consolidated. They are now open to view.
