FR 04-22 Crop marks of one of the Neolithic settlements typical of the many dotted around the Tavoliere. A number of them were discovered by John Bradford during WW2 while stationed in Puglia. He was an archaeologist and while examining RAF aerial photographs in his duty as an Intelligence Officer for military purposes, was immediately aware of the richness of the remains buried under this amazing landscape. In those pioneering days of aerial archaeology he was instrumental in discovering many new sites & putting Tavoliere & Puglia on the archaeological map.
