FRJ 02/15 One of the earliest, sixteen century Ottoman fort at al Qatrana, on the Hajj, (pilgrimage) route. The primary function of these forts, built along the caravan route, was to protect the water resources. On the right is the large Roman reservoir. These forts had other functions as well such as post stations, police posts & supply depots. This is one of the few forts which has been restored & it was achieved with a grant from the Turkish Government.
