FRJ 07/10 Qal At Unaiza. This Ottoman fort, on the Hajj Road, may have been a Roman fort. It stands 8 km south-east of Da ajaniya & on the desert route. Some of these forts were still functioning but fairly run-down at the beginning of the 19th century, we have descriptions from early travellers. Once abandoned, in the early 20th century, they quickly decayed & became vulnerable to vandalism. The surroundings of this fort are particularly forlorn. The uneven ground may hide graves, as the Hajj forts were often surrounded by a graveyard, a reservoir & cisterns to collect water.
