The railway is to run from a station near to Bridport Coach Station (the final location is to be agreed shortly with West Dorset District Council) passing through the edge of the St. Michael's Trading Estate and following the edge of St. Mary's Playing Fields and passing between the Football Club and St. Mary's School. There will be a small station here to serve both the School and football ground, after which the line crosses Skilling Hill Road by means of a light-controlled level crossing.
The line then skirts the edge of the Rugby, Football and Cricket grounds, passing Port Mead and then goes under the Bridport Bypass, using the existing viaduct. There will be another small station in this locality, with a passing loop (to enable trains from opposite directions to pass) - it is hoped to construct a footbridge over the River Brit and so link the station, via a new foorpath, with the subway at the Crown Roundabout.
The railway now follows the meadows of the lower valley and, near the West Bay Camp Site, crosses the River Brit by a bowstring bridge (The Millennium Bridge), then crosses West Bay Road by means of another level crossing and enters the station area at West Bay. Again, the final arrangements at the station are being discussed with West Dorset District Council.
As well as stations, it will be necessary to construct sheds for locomotives and carriages, together with workshops for maintenance and repairs. To ensure that wheels wear evenly, all the rolling stock has to be turned regularly, so a turntable is required, plus, of course, water and oil fuel tanks. The site for this Depot is also under discussion.

The second phase is one extending northwards up the Brit Valley to Pymore, Netherbury and Beaminster amd then cutting through a gap in the hills to Mosterton to end alongside the mainline station at Crewkerne, where connections would be made to the new inter-European services etc.

The third extension would be from West Bay, over the hill to Burton Bradstock and then via Cogden, Swyre, West Bexington to Abbotsbury, thereafter continuing through Rodden, Langton Herring and Fleet to Fleetsbridge, picking up the former Portland railway formation through Rodwell to a terminus in Weymouth.
These two proposals are very ambitious but are intended as part of an integrated transport system which would be an alternative to the motor car, opening up the area to visitors without choking it!
Extensive public consultation exercises would be carried out before any decisions were taken on promoting such a major undertaking.
